Celebrations have opened in Nairobi to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kenya and the first nations in the world that recognised its independence and established their missions in the capital. Among them is Italy, represented during today's day of meetings at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (Kicc) by Ambassador Roberto Natali.
The diplomat met with the government's First Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, before visiting the exhibition centre inside the Kicc, which features an exhibition on the life of Luigi Broglio, creator of the Malindi Space Centre dedicated to him, and a series of illustrative panels on the activities of the Italian Space Agency (Asi) in Kenya and its constant collaboration with its Kenyan counterpart agency (Ksa).
Mudavadi also lingered in the Italian pavilion, the only individual exhibition area of a European Union country, viewing a historical film on the last launch of a satellite from the Malindi space base and hoping that in the future the centre's launching activity could resume in order to advance Kenya and Africa in the aerospace sphere in the name of collaboration between the two countries. The importance of relations in the area of space collaboration was reaffirmed during the recent visit to Kenya by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy.
