The Special Premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera 'Il Trovatore' took place at the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theatre 'Taras Shevchenko'. The evening, promoted by the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Ukraine, aimed to celebrate the deep ties between the two countries in the cultural sphere and saw the participation of two highly talented Italian artists, Conductor Stefano Torboli and Tenor Francesco Congiu, who came to the Ukrainian capital for a few days of rehearsals together with the Orchestra and Cast of the Theatre.
Ambassador Carlo Formosa greeted those present from the stage: 'Culture, like freedom, is a universal value that cannot be bent by violence or oppression. The choice of 'Il Trovatore' for this evening is particularly symbolic: the immortal Verdi tells a story steeped in passion, struggle and resilience. His characters live in a world shattered by conflict and misunderstanding, yet each of them carries on their own battle for what they believe in, for love, for justice, for freedom. In this, the work echoes the history of Ukraine, a country that today courageously fights to defend its independence, its identity and European values'.
In the presence of the Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi, numerous members of the Government and Parliament, Ambassadors and Representatives of international organisations, Verdi's opera enchanted the guests and spectators, in a theatre completely sold out for the occasion. The enthusiasm of the audience erupted into lengthy applause in celebration of the dramatic intensity, the power of the opera singing and the majestic scenography, but above all to pay tribute to the Ukrainian artists and cultural workers who carry out important projects in the context of continuing war aggression.
